Our partners from the Generalitat de Catalunya and Deliberativa are sharing their learning and experiences from the Catalan Climate Assembly in a series of events:
- Forum on Deliberation, Creativity and Democracy – Round table ‘Deliberation in the local world’. Pablo García, Head of Strategic and Transversal Projects, participated in the round table ‘Deliberation in the local world’ and was able to transfer the main milestones of our unit, while sharing with other administrations and organisations their practices.
- Federation for Innovation in Democracy Europe – Autumn School, Workshop ‘Building the content provision around trade-offs’. Pablo García and Núria Pérez led the workshop around the provision of content and the different challenges presented throughout the development of content for learning and deliberation throughout the different phases of a citizens’ assembly. To do so, a comparative analysis between the general recommendations of KNOCA and a hybrid between the CLIMAS methodological guidelines together with the case study of the Citizens’ Climate Assembly of Catalonia was provided.
- DecidimFest – Round table ‘Decidim Stories: The role of participatory democracy in the climate crisis’. Pablo García presents the Citizens’ Climate Assembly of Catalonia to the attendees of this year’s DecidimFest in the framework of a day where we will reflect on what role participatory democracy can play in the current context of climate crisis. We will learn about the experience of different governments that have used the Decidim platform to organise citizen participation processes in response to the environmental crisis.
- Barcelona Provincial Council, Conference on “Democratic Innovation and participation in the local world”. Yago Bermejo from Deliberativa and Laura Suñé, Deputy Director of Citizen Participation from the Generalitat of Catalunya, presented what Citizen Assemblies are in the context of Climate Assemblies, and talked about the CLIMAS project within this framework. The most notable participatory processes have been presented, such as the Citizens’ Climate Assembly of Catalonia and the draft law on citizen participation.
