The Mediterranean Researchers’ Night, MEDNIGHT 2024, was held on September 27, 2024, in several Mediterranean countries that came together in a science-related event under a common flag. At the University of the Aegean in Chios an event open to the public was organised on September 27, 18:00 – 21:00. The event was peripatetic, and the citizens were walking around the halls, observing exhibitions of research work that is held at the University.

Regarding CLIMAS, a poster was prepared and leaflets with information were given to the participants. A short questionnaire was distributed asking participants about their knowledge and beliefs on climate change. The concept of Living Labs was introduced and their willingness to participate in the activities of Chios Living Lab was explored.

In total, 32 answers of the questionnaire were received. The results showed that

  • 88% of citizens think that Chios is moderate/quite vulnerable to the effects of climate change (e.g. heat waves) while no one answered that Chios is extremely vulnerable.
  • Most citizens (59%) don’t know about Living Labs and after providing relevant information from the UAegean team they were willing to participate at the following workshops of Chios Living Lab.
  • Although the 63.9% answered that they are aware of environmental issues, only 24.3% participates in environmental actions (quite enough/a lot).

We, the UAegean team, will keep going with raising awareness about climate change and increase public participation on environmental actions.
